Sponsors and Cooperators for KRIS Garcia
Sonoma County Water Agency
The Sonoma County Water Agency provides water to residential and agricultural customers in Mendocino, Sonoma and Marin counties. The agency funded KRIS Garcia and projects for other basins to gather information as a partner in recovery planning.
North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board
The North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board (NCRWQCB) provided data, photos and reports for KRIS Garcia. Staff also participated in peer review.
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection
The California Department of Forestry (CDF) Santa Rosa field office provided timber harvest data from 1987 to 2002 for the KRIS Garcia database (DB) and Map projects.
California Department of Fish and Game
The California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) provided a wealth of data for the KRIS Garcia project and also participated in the peer review process. Region 3 CDFG was particularly instrumental in the KRIS Garcia project success because it supplied valuable historical documents.
California Department of Conservation, California Geologic Survey
The California Geologic Service, formerly the California Division of Mines and Geology (CDMG), a part of the Department of Conservation, provided geological information for the KRIS Garcia Map project.
USDA Forest Service Redwood Sciences Lab
The Pacific Southwest Region Experimental Station in Arcata, California, known as the Redwood Sciences Lab, generously shared their scientific literature and data and participated in peer review.
USFS Spatial Analysis Lab, Sacramento, CA
The USFS Spatial Analysis Lab in Sacramento provided forest stand and vegetation coverages for the KRIS Map and database projects. The USFS works cooperatively with CDF FRAP on many projects.
The Friends of the Garcia River (FROG)
FROG is a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the Garcia River and the intelligent civic planning within it's watershed. Peter Dobbins of the Friends of the Garcia River provided photographs, data and map information which are valuable additions to the KRIS Garcia database.
Trout Unlimited
Trout Unlimited has been actively engaged in a partnership with the Mendocino Redwood Company in the South Fork Garcia River graciously provided information related to the project, including their reports and excellent photographs.
Mendocino Redwood Company
The Mendocino Redwood Company was cooperative in every way with the KRIS Garcia project, supplying fisheries, water quality, large wood and map data. MRC staff also participated in peer review.
The Mendocino County Resource Conservation District
The Mendocino RCD has been dedicated to the restoration of salmon and steelhead in Mendocino County for over 30 years. Their restoration pictures and reports on Garcia watershed projects are useful additions to KRIS Garcia.
Held-Poage Historical Museum and Library
Many of the wonderful historical photos in the KRIS projects were provided by the Held-Poage Historical Museum and Library in Ukiah, California. The museum and library is a subsidiary of the Mendocino Historical Society. Photos may be viewed in KRIS but any other use must be approved by the Mendocino Historical Society.
Institute for Forest and Watershed Management
The Institute for Forest and Watershed Management, formerly known as the Forest Science Project, provided water temperature data and associated locations in an electronic form to the KRIS Garcia project.
The Americorp Watershed Stewards Project
Elizabeth Earthman and Jennifer Presnell of the Americorp Watershed Stewards Program helped organize Garcia River restoration photos for use in the KRIS Garcia database and also assisted with data collection in the field. Their work is reflected in mainstem Garcia River dive counts in August 2002 and South Fork Garcia River habitat typing reports by the California Department of Fish and Game, which were based on data they collected.
Conservation Technology Support Program and ESRI
The Conservation Technology Support Program, with the support of the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), awarded a grant for hardware and software to the Institute for Fisheries Resources (IFR), which made it possible to assemble the KRIS Garcia Map project. The Conservation Technology Support Program (CTSP) annually awards grants for equipment, software and training to tax-exempt conservation organizations to build their Geographic Information Systems (GIS) capacity.
National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Pacific Grassroots Salmon Initiative
The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established by Congress in 1984 and dedicated to creating public/private partnerships to conserve our Nation's fish, wildlife, and plant resources. NFWF supplied the original funding for the KRIS Garcia project in the form of a Pacific Grassroots Salmon Initiative grant.
American Fisheries Society
The American Fisheries Society (AFS) allowed inclusion of some of its journal articles in the CD version of the KRIS Garcia Bibliography. AFS has posted recent journals on the internet, and the entire contents of these journals are available with a subscription. Article abstracts may be viewed at no cost. All AFS journal articles in KRIS are still fully covered by copyright and may not be re-used without written permission from AFS.
