Fish: CDFG Hayworth Creek 1966 Net Samples |
|
Caption: California Department of Fish and Game staff surveyed Hayworth Creek in August 1966 and netted 117 coho salmon juveniles, 582 steelhead trout and three stickleback. While coho salmon juveniles were characterized as well proportioned, steelhead juveniles were characterized as being of variable fitness. Some older age (2+) steelhead were sampled as lengths up to 7 inches were recorded. Unfortunately the complete break down by size of the catch was not recorded. CDFG stated that Hayworth Creek "provides the Noyo River System with summer and winter flow of good quality water and 1.44 miles of good spawning grounds and 2.25 miles of excellent nursery area for steelhead and silver salmon." Pools constituted an estimated 30% of habitats and substrates were: " fine rubble 30%, coarse gravel 40%, fine gravel 30% (from mouth to 0.75 mile above North Fork) and from 0.75 mile above North Fork and up: boulders 40%, coarse rubble 25%, fine rubble 20%, coarse gravel 10% and fine gravel 5%." See InfoLinks for more information and for a link to the CDFG Stream Survey from which these data were taken.
