This page contains detailed information about a data set in KRIS, including where the original data reside and how to contact the sources for the data. Data sets are linked to the appropriate page by means of the Meta Identifier. Many data sets can be linked to same page by sharing the same Meta Identifier.

Type of DataGill net sampling for fish
OriginatorMontana Department of Fish, Wildlife, Parks
DescriptionGill net sampling for fish in Libby Reservoir (aka Koocanusa Reservoir) from 1975-2002 by Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, Parks. Netting effort was reduced from 128 ganged (coupled) nets in 1975, to 56 in 1988, and 14 ganged floating and 28 single sinking nets in 1991. Year-round sampling was conducted from 1975-1987; spring and fall sampling was conducted between 1988-2000. For details on methodology, see Hoffman et al. (2000) in the KRIS Kootenay bibliography.

TitleMITIGATION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF LIBBY DAM, Annual Report 2000
AbstractExecutive Summary: "Mitigation for the Construction and Operation of Libby Dam" is part of the Northwest Power Planning Council's resident fish and wildlife program. The program was mandated by the Northwest Planning Act of 1980, and is responsible for mitigating for damages to fish and wildlife caused by hydroelectric development in the Columbia River Basin. The objective of Phase I of the project (1983 through 1987) was to maintain or enhance the Libby Reservoir fishery by quantifying seasonal water levels and developing ecologically sound operational guidelines. The objective of Phase II of the project (1988 through 1996) was to determine the biological effects of reservoir operations combined with biotic changes associated with an aging reservoir. The objectives of Phase III of the project (1996 through present) are to implement habitat enhancement measures to mitigate for dam effects, to provide data for implementation of operational strategies that benefit resident fish, monitor reservoir and river conditions, and monitor mitigation projects for effectiveness.
