Sediment: Road Miles Removed in Idaho Panhandle NF 1991-1999 |
|
Caption: The chart above shows the total miles of roads removed per year in the Idaho Panhandle National Forest. Although road removal was at its highest in the early 1990's, many miles of road have been decommissioned annually since 1996. Reducing road densities helps to prevent sediment yield to streams. The Idaho Panhandle National Forest overlaps with only a small portion of the Kootenai basin, so much of this decommissioning took place in other watersheds. Data come from the Idaho Panhandle National Forests' Forest Plan Monitoring and Evaluation Report, 1999. See Info Links for more information.
