This is a map of the regional location of the Kootenai River basin. It is a major tributary to the Columbia River and covers 18,000 square miles. The Kootenai River
begins in British Columbia along the border with Alberta, flows into Montana, then Idaho, and the back to British Columbia. The Canadians have a different spelling for
the river and its name changes from Kootenay to Kootenai as it enters the U.S. and then back as it re-enters Canada to join the Columbia at Castlegar, B.C. Scale = 1:6,330,597 .
