This photo shows Forsythe Creek just west of Highway 101 on Reeves Canyon Road. While uplands are covered with oak woodlands, patches of grassland and a few conifers, vineyard encroaches near the creek at left. Note also that numerous alders in the riparian zone are dead. Photo provided by Patrick Higgins. June 10, 2002.

This photo was taken looking south down Forsythe Creek near the same location as Picture #1. Note the large oaks that form the overstory of the Forsythe Creek riparian zone. The creek is on the valley floor out of view at the lower center of the photo. Photo contributed by Patrick Higgins. June 10, 2002.

This photo was taken looking east up Forsythe Creek just upstream of the location of Picture #1 with the Highway 101 prism forming the hillslope backdrop. Notice the algae growing on the stream bottom and the lack of any riparian overstory. Alders form the immediate riparian. Photo contributed by Patrick Higgins. June 10, 2002.

This photo taken off Reeves Canyon Road shows the riparian terrace with young willows and alders near Forsythe Creek, which is out of view to the right. The Highway 101 road grade and fill slope rise up from the creek. The dead alder at right may reflect disease or parasitism. Photo contributed by Patrick Higgins. June 10, 2002.

This photo shows Forsythe Creek upstream of locations in Pictures 1-6. Mature alders line the stream banks and oak trees provide a partial over-story, but grasslands also encroach into the riparian as well. Photo contributed by Patrick Higgins. June 10, 2002.
